Singapore-Hong Kong Travel Bubble to Officially Open on 26 May 2021

It’s the first of many travel bubbles in the works with Singapore!

From Wednesday, 26 May 2021 onwards, the Singapore-Hong Kong Air Travel Bubble (ATB) is set to open. Gone are the days when you’d long for an authentic Portugese egg tart or traditional dim sum breakfast: Very soon, you’ll be able to experience that reality in the land of Wong Kar-wai films (safely, of course)!

Spearheaded by Singapore Airlines and Cathay Pacific, this news was announced by Minister for Transport, Ong Ye Kung on Monday, 26 Apr 2021. Due to the extremely low numbers of community cases for both cities, the overall situation in these cities is very similar in its remarkable handle on community transmissions.

What should you take note of?

  • Travellers from both Singapore and Hong Kong are required to have been in their respective cities for 14 days prior to departure. This excludes any amount of time in quarantine or on stay-at-home notice.
  • There’ll be two Covid-19 swab tests: One during pre-departure, and another one on-arrival.
  • Travellers do not need to undergo any quarantine upon arrival.
  • While travellers from Hong Kong require a full vaccination, travellers from Singapore do not require the same.
  • Prior to departure, travellers from Singapore will have to install Hong Kong’s LeaveHomeSafe app (this is similar to Singapore’s TraceTogether app).
  • For the first two weeks, flights will not happen daily (check out the section below on flight details for more information).
  • If the seven-day average number of unlinked community cases in either city increases to more than five, ATB will be ceased. This will continue until the situation stabilises again.

Another piece of good news is that the purpose of travel and the areas that you wish to travel within Hong Kong is not restricted!
