Your trip to Dresden, Germany will not be complete without seeing one of Germany’s greatest Baroque-style architectural structures. Designed by the architect George Bhar and constructed in the early 18th century, Dresden Frauenkirche features a towering 96-metre high church dome called die Steinerne Glocke or “Stone Bell” – an engineering feat comparable to that of St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome.

Dresden Frauenkirche was originally a Roman Catholic church but it became Protestant during the Reformation period. The original structure was destroyed during the World War II bombing in Dresden. Reconstruction of the exterior was completed in 2004 and the interior in 2005. Although this is just a reconstructed structure based on the architectural plans of George Bhar, its glory is still undeniable.
