Maybe you’ve heard of Cinque Terre and Camogli, but have you heard of Portofino? Portofino is yet another beautiful Italian village, part of the Italian Riviera. It lies on a peninsula in the Tigullio Golf east of Genoa in the northern Italian region of Liguria.

This quaint village is not only famous for its colourful houses that line its picturesque harbour; it’s also recognised as a safe haven of the rich and the famous due to its historical association with celebrity visitors. In the late 19th century, a number of expatriates began to build luxurious vacation houses along the harbour. Fishing was eventually replaced with tourism as the town’s main industry in the 1950s.

Today, the once fishing village is full of luxury hotels, shops, restaurants and cafes. But there’s so much more to Portofino than just luxurious living. You can explore the castle on top of the hill overlooking the village or engage in activities such as boating, swimming and diving.
