Immersing yourself in festivals is one way to delve deeper into the cultural roots of a particular society. One of the many culturally fascinating celebrations in India is Kerala’s Onam Festival. It is a ten-day Hindu festival celebrated during the Malayali month of Chingam, usually in the months of August to September. This 2014, Onam Festival will be celebrated from September 7 to 16.

Believed to be the homecoming of the legendary King Mahabali, Onam Festival features the best of Kerala culture and tradition. From the unique costumes and intricately designed flowers to the traditional cuisine, dance, music and rituals – all these and more highlight the colourful Onam Festival.
