I’m Tired of Hearing These Excuses from People Who Don’t Travel

“I wish I could do what you do. I wish I could travel.” If there’s a will, there’s always a way. You just have to choose to want to travel. Just do it.

“I wish I could do what you do. I wish I could travel.” I hear people tell me this all the time. I’m not judging them but I always say that if there’s a will, there’s always a way. In every decision, there is a price to pay. People always come up with reasons why they can’t go out and travel. Here are some of the “excuses” I hear and why I think there’s always a way out of them.

I’m too busy with my life

Work. School. LIFE! Everybody is busy! Bus seriously, if you REALLY want to travel, you have to make time for it. There’s about 365 days in a year or about 52 weekends and you’re telling me you can’t take a weekend off? JUST ONE WEEKEND?? Okay, I got carried away. It’s all about time management. If you’re busy with a lot of things, try to do advanced scheduling. Finish your deliverables ahead of time and grind harder. After all, a weekend getaway would be waiting for you!

I do not have enough leave credits

Some people have very few leave credits, and some people don’t have any AT ALL, like me. Okay, so everybody’s perks at work might be different. All I’m saying is that I do not have leave credits yet I am able to travel and enjoy it. If I can do it, why can’t you? You can be busy all day during weekdays, but you always have the weekends. Check the calendar for long holidays, there’s plenty every year. And then there’s your sick leave too, just kidding.

My wallet is screaming, I cannot afford to travel

excuses people travel

This is one of the most common reasons why people say they cannot travel. I would find this acceptable if you are totally living off of your parents’ money. But now, even students travel. How? They save their allowance, what little they have. Something has to give. There is always a price to pay and sacrifices have to be made to get what you really want. If you are struggling with funds to pay off debts, rent, your kids’ school, it’s totally fine. But ask yourself this, is there one thing you’re spending on that you can live without? There you go! That’s your solution.

I’m too tired, I’d rather sleep

excuses people travel

Do you know how absolutely rewarding it is to camp by the beach, relax on the sand, and do nothing the entire day? You do not have to do extreme activities to enjoy a short getaway. Think about this, you’ve been working yourself off the entire week, you are tired, you have to get that R&R. Well, travelling could be your R&R. If you want to sleep at home, then, by all means, sleep at home! I’ll be out here, sleeping under the stars and enjoying the sea breeze.

It’s a complete waste of my time

excuses people travel

WHAT?! Who are you and what did you just say? If you are reading this and you think that travelling is a waste of time, I don’t think you should be reading this at all. Travelling is NEVER a waste of time. I don’t even have to explain this.

The world is not safe anymore

From pickpockets to terrorists, yes I know that there are a lot of bad people out there. But that doesn’t mean that it should stop you from stepping out of your comfort zone. I’m not saying that you go to a war-stricken destination, all I’m saying is that you should have more faith in humanity. There is still so much good in this world and you have to believe it. When you travel, you get to meet new people, observe their daily lives, and make new friends.

I do not want to travel alone

This is the worst possible excuse anyone could ever tell me. Gone are the days when you would need a companion or someone to go with you to see the world. Don’t you just hate it when you keep asking and inviting people to travel with you and none of them ever shows up? I’ve been doing that for a long time until I decided that I am not going to let anyone affect my plans. If no one wants to come with me, I’ll go alone. It’s not always a sad story, believe me.

Okay, so I might have been carried away a bit. You cannot blame me. While these are only some of the excuses I hear people say when they cannot travel, there are so many other reasons why you should. Don’t let yourself stop you from doing that much-deserved trip! Just do it.
