7 Airports Around the World that Are Oh So Touristy

In some countries, the airport is beautiful and notable enough to be a tourist spot as well.

“If airports can be seen as temples to travel, gateways to other worlds, then airport carpets are the vast prayer mats upon which we all genuflect.” – George Pendle

Airports come in different sizes and appeal. They are the basis of the first impression that guests have of a country or a destination because they are the very place where every adventure starts, especially in the international scene. There are airports that are plain and just constructed to be a hub for arriving and departing aircrafts, but some are truly magnificent works of art.

Here are 7 international airports that go the extra mile and have features that make them, in themselves, a tourist destination.

Being the third largest airport in the kingdom, it is home to one of the key airport terminals for Muslims during the annual Hajj. Its Hajj terminal can accommodate up to 80,000 passengers all at the same time. The Hajj terminal has been captivating guests and travellers all over the world because of its distinct design, and it is quite elusive for some because it is only accessible during Hajj. This terminal features tent-like structures made of fiberglass to achieve a chimney effect. It is not made for aesthetic purposes alone, because these tents help cool down the facility, especially when the season reaches temperatures up to 50°C.
