There’s an ache inside us all that we’re trying our best to cure, and that is travelling. It’s been almost a year since Singaporeans have had the opportunity to spread their wings and venture around the world. And truthfully, they’re getting more travel-deprived by the minute. With COVID-19 vaccinations underway, wanderlust travellers will be glad to know that Singapore is discussing vaccine certifications to help resume international travel.
Vaccine essential to resume global travel
PM Lee’s global conference “Recovery Plan for the World” confirmed that vaccination talks between keen parties are ongoing. He highlights that “no country is truly safe until all of us are safe”.
In addition, he announces that Singapore is discussing mutual recognition of vaccine certification with interested countries. Undoubtedly, a revival of business and tourism travel would definitely boost the country’s economic recovery.
Greece, Spain and Britain are among other nations considering this vaccine certification to revive their economies as well.
Ongoing talks of vaccine certification with Malaysia
Alongside COVID-19 restrictions, Singaporeans had to endure the pain of not being able to travel to neighbouring Malaysia for weekend getaways.
However, thanks to discussions on vaccine certification, travel to Malaysia may be possible. Malaysian Transport Minister Dr Wee Ka Siong announced that talks are ongoing with Singapore’s Transport Minister Ong Ye Kung.
If these discussions come to fruition, individuals with vaccine certification likely won’t have to serve quarantine when travelling.
The future of overseas travel
With the arrival of COVID-19 vaccines worldwide, dreams of travelling may soon be realised. We simply can’t wait for the day we get to venture beyond home soil!
