As Singapore COVID-19 vaccination rate reaches 80%, it emerges as the world’s most vaccinated country.
“We have crossed another milestone, where 80% of our population has received their full regimen of two doses,” shared Ong Ye Kung, Singapore’s Health Minister, in a Facebook post on Sunday.
“It means Singapore has taken another step forward in making ourselves more resilient to COVID-19,” he added.
Vaccination rate in Singapore
As of 28 Aug 2021, Singapore has administered at least 8,684,484 doses of COVID-19 vaccines — according to figures extracted from The Straits Times.
A total of 4,302,996 individuals have received two doses of either Pfizer-BioNTech/Comirnaty and Moderna. Similarly, 4,505,072 have received one dose of the abovementioned vaccines.
Additionally, 85,557 individuals have completed the full vaccination regime with other vaccines recognised in the World Health Organization’s Emergency Use Listing. They include Sinovac-Coronavac, Sinopharm, and AstraZeneca.
Out of every 10 Singaporeans, eight are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

Singapore’s vaccination campaign
The Little Red Dot commenced its vaccination campaign on 30 Dec 2020, giving priority to healthcare workers, frontline workers, and senior citizens. Senior staff nurse Sarah Lim became the first person in Singapore to receive the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine.
In June 2021, Singapore increased daily doses from 40,000 to 80,000 in a bid to ramp up vaccination rollout. Additionally, the interval period between the first and second dose shortened from eight weeks to four weeks. This allowed individuals to complete their vaccination regime and receive maximum protection sooner.
As Singapore marks its 80% COVID-19 vaccination milestone, the country will look into further easing restrictions, although in a controlled manner. It will be able to progress towards becoming a COVID-19 resilient nation, in its four-step plan to reopen the economy.
