With its medieval settlements, cobblestone streets and huge cathedrals, you’d certainly expect this town to be in England, but looks can be deceiving. China has always been the master of all creativity – anything is invented, re-created and imitated just like this English town. Commissioned by the Chinese government, Thames Town is part of the “Nine Towns” plan, each exemplifying a different European culture in Shanghai.
Despite its Western charm, Thames Town didn’t quite win the hearts of many Chinese people. It only appeals to the families and couples wishing to have a European feel without having to travel all the way to Europe.
Head down to Shanghai to explore this English town before it’s gone.
