Have you seen the spooky ‘blood moon’ on October 8? If you’ve missed it, you are not alone. Not everyone was able to witness this spectacular lunar eclipse especially in some countries where the weather was not so cooperative. Thanks to the photographers who managed to snap photos of the stunning blood moon, the unlucky ones can still marvel at this one-of-a-kind phenomenon.

During the total lunar eclipse, the moon passes into the darkest part of Earth’s shadow, causing the moon to have an eerie blood red glow, thus the name, “blood moon”. To those who have seen it, you’re fortunate, but to those who have missed it, fret not, there are still more skywatching events to come.

The recent total eclipse is part of a tetrad of lunar eclipses that are set to take place starting this year until next year. The first total eclipse in this tetrad took place last April 2014. The next is anticipated to happen in April 2015 while the last in the tetrad will occur in September 2015.
According to Space.com, skygazers in most of North America will have the chance to see a partial solar eclipse on October 23. Comet Siding Spring is also set to make a close flyby of Mars on October 19, and the Orionid meteor shower is expected to peak overnight from October 21-22.
