Here’s a remarkable attraction you just can’t miss when you visit Brussels, Belgium. At first glance, it may look like an art installation you see around the parks or city centres but this metallic thing is actually something more than you may have imagined.

Originally built for the 1958 Brussels World’s Fair (Expo 58), the Atomium is now one of the most visited landmarks in Brussels. This 102-metre tall structure is made up of nine stainless steel clad spheres connected to each other by tubes, forming like a gigantic unit cell of an iron crystal. While you can see nine spheres, only six of them are open to public. Five spheres serve as exhibit halls and public spaces while the top most sphere gives visitors a splendid bird’s eye view of the city.
