The global travel industry has been hit hard by the COVID-19. As Malaysian tourist hotspot, Langkawi experiences a decline in international tourist arrivals, the Kedah state government has decided to waiver hotel room fees for all hotels in Langkawi for six months. In other words, free hotels stays in Langkawi!
This initiative by the Kedah state government was implemented in attempts to bolster the tourism sector. Amid tourism bans and flight cancellations, hotel and restaurant operators are among the businesses in Langkawi that have been suffering from the impacts of the virus outbreak.
Furthermore, the Malaysian federal government has also launched a RM20 billion economic stimulus package to mitigate economic impacts of the epidemic. This could potentially help to boost local tourism amid the COVID-19 outbreak.
With flight prices to Kedah down and free hotel stays in Langkawi, you can kill two birds with one stone!
