5 Types of Couple Poses to Strike During a Trip Abroad

Here’s the 101 guide on how to capture the memorable moments with your significant other in pictures.

Ever been on social media and went like, “Woah, wish I could take pictures like this with my SO/bf/gf/spouse”? Read on to find out some simple Insta-worthy poses you can strike while travelling – with no DSLR, GoPro, drone or any high-level techy stuff like that.

1. Don’t LOOK BACK in anger

No makeup on? Looking like crap because you woke up at 3am to make it to that sunrise hike? Back view shots to the rescue! Just find a cool backdrop, like a breathtaking scenery, and pose with your backs to the camera! Hold hands and look into the far distance for that pensive touch…though most likely you’ll be thinking of what to have for dinner or that out-of-office auto-reply you forgot to set up before leaving your office for the trip.

Bruny Island Neck, Tasmania

Tip: Take your back view shots up a notch and snap ’em #followmeto pictures that took the Insta-world by storm. Credits to creative genius @muradosmann and his beautiful wife for starting this trend!

Difficulty level: 3/5. Not hard but you need an extra pair of hands to take a picture with both of you in it. Insta-worthy level: 4/5. It really depends on the background, or how good your ass(es) look.

2. You LIFT me up!

If your partner has been hitting the gym. it’s time to put those muscles to the test by taking these lifting shots!

Step 1: Find some place where you’re not obstructing anything, as this might take awhile to get right. Step 2: The person at the base, find your centre and make sure you adopt a stable tripod position. Step 3: The flyer, try to hold your own weight as much as possible and not collapse onto your base!

Don’t worry if you don’t get it right the first time. Practise this diligently daily before you take that trip; after all, practice makes perfect.

Difficulty level: 4.5/5. Make the person at the base has been religiously pumping iron before attempting this. Flyer, you’ll need to be able to hold your balance (engage the core) or you’ll likely end up stumbling over. Insta-worthy level: 4.5/5. You get to show off where you’re at and how strong your man/woman (gender equality!) is at the same time – why not?

3. With famous landmark

You haven’t really visited a country until you take a picture with its most recognizable landmark!

Arc de Triomphe, Paris

Tip: iPhone7+ users, make use of the portrait mode to really focus on the subject(s), while still capturing the beauty of the landmark, be it natural or man-made.

Difficulty level: 2/5. This is pretty much a no-brainer to take. Simply selfie or ask a random stranger – literally snap and go. Insta-worthy level: 3.5/5. As mentioned, a shot like this shows you’ve really been to the place and left your mark. Even if it’s just the Merlion, you’re still gonna get ‘em ‘likes’.

4. She’s THE ONE!

Getting down on one knee, waiting with bated breath for that ‘YES’ while holding out the ring and your entire heart with it. This might be the most nerve-racking thing that guys have to go through (but I could be wrong). If you’re planning an overseas proposal, make sure to capture the moment!

The Samaya Ubud, Bali

Difficulty level: 5/5. The picture alone is not difficult to take, but the planning that goes behind it and the anticipation and considerations are colossal. “Did I bring the ring?” “What if the diamond is not big enough?” “Do I really want to spend the rest of my life with this person?” This might just be the most important picture you’ll ever take in your life! Insta-worthy level: 5/5.  “She said YES!” – which literally translates to “she’ll do all the housework while I play my computer games in our BTO flat’” – can’t get any more Insta-worthy than that.

5. Just the WAY YOU ARE

Truth be told, when you’re in love, it just shows. There’s no magic formula for taking the perfect couple shot; it all boils down to the chemistry and love between you two.

You can literally take pictures of anywhere, while doing anything, when you’re travelling with your significant other. And it doesn’t matter if it’s a fail shot that didn’t make the cut for Instagram – when you’re both old and wrinkly, you might just look back at the photos with a smile on your face and tears in your eyes. Be it a selfie/carfie, or while striking a yoga pose or eating a McDonald’s breakfast wrap, just capture the beautiful moments you want to remember always.
