Malaysia’s Genting, Melaka, and Tioman to Open for Travel on October 1

More destinations are expected to be added soon.

After the positive response to the reopening of Langkawi, Malaysia is now planning to reopen several more destinations to domestic tourism. Genting Highlands, Melaka, and Pulau Tioman are all expected to be added to the list of travel bubbles in the country soon.

The tentative date of reopening is 1 October 2021, pending final approval by the country’s Special Committee on Pandemic Management. Once that has been confirmed though, the popular destinations will be allowed to welcome tourists once again.

Relevant (and refined) SOPs will be in place to ensure the safety of all travellers. Among other things, travellers can expect to undergo swab tests and health screenings at various points of entry. What’s more, it is understood that only fully vaccinated individuals will be allowed to travel.

According to reports, the three destinations listed are just the start of the gradual reopening of Malaysia’s tourism industry. More destinations are currently being discussed and may well be added to the official list of domestic travel bubbles soon.

While it is encouraging to see more destinations gradually reopen in Malaysia, we would like to remind everyone to continue prioritising your health (and those around you) above all else. Travel to Genting, Melaka, and Tioman if you want, but travel safely.
