Etihad Airways is the First Airline in the World With a Fully Vaccinated Cabin Crew

It formally launched its employee vaccination initiative in January this year.

Etihad Airways becomes the first airline in the world to fully vaccinate all of its pilots and cabin crew against COVID-19.

This was successfully carried out through the airline’s ‘Protected Together’ employee vaccination initiative, which formally began in January this year. Expanding on the United Arab Emirates’s “Choose to Vaccinate” campaign, “Protected Together” encourages staff to take charge of protecting themselves against the infectious disease.

Etihad Airways carried out various efforts under its vaccination initiative. They are:

  • Mobile clinics where employees can receive vaccination during work.
  • Access to easy-to-understand vaccine information.
  • Virtual talks conducted by medical professionals.

The national airline of the United Arab Emirates brought the initiative to fruition in a bid to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Plus, it wanted to allay any fears passengers may have flying with the airline during these unprecedented times.

“We proactively made the vaccine available to all our employees to not only help combat the effects of COVID-19 but to make travellers feel confident and reassured the next time they fly with us,” Etihad Aviation Group’s CEO, Tony Douglas, said in a press release released on the company’s official website.

Etihad Airways also put effort into ensuring its staff receive spots in Abu Dhabi’s vaccination programme. It was one of the first few companies in the country to do so. On top of that, its aeromedical centre – Etihad Airways Medical Centre – became an authorised COVID-19 vaccination clinic.

Till date, 75% of Etihad Airway’s entire workforce has already received at least one dose of the vaccine.

UAE vaccination programme

UAE aims to vaccinate half of its population against COVID-19 by the end of March. The Arab nation, with an estimated population of 9.9 million people, is on track to achieving the target. Currently, about 1.8 million people have been successfully inoculated. With that, it holds the record for the world’s second-fastest vaccine campaign, just right behind Israel.
