Mystical and Enigmatic, the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Awes All

Shoko Lai was left astounded by the beauty and sheer majesty of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. With its pristine marble floors and golden decour, it was truly breathtaking.

One of the tour’s highlights in Abu Dhabi is to visit the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. We visited the mosque on a Friday and that day was a day of prayer so the mosque was open only from 16:30- 23:00.

It was like a mirage in the desert.  A white and golden mosque, it was so beautiful.

We took our shoes off and covered up.  There is a strict dress code so you may want to check the mosque website before you go.

The floral designs on the marble pillars and floors were so beautiful.  It was amazing just how pure white the marble floors were.  They must have put in a lot of effort to clean it.

Inside the mosque was the main prayer hall which displayed the world’s largest hand-knotted carpet.  The entire floor, which is the size of about four football fields, is covered with just one carpet.  Incredible.

The crystal chandeliers were made by Faustig (that was made from stainless steel) and the 24-carat galvanized gold was used on the gilded brass. The glass panels were studded with Swarovski crystals.  Everything was just so breathtaking.

After seeing all that beautiful marble and chandeliers, I looked so happy. Outside the mosque there was many taxis lined up so leaving by taxi is not a problem.
