7 Air-Travel Tips that can Possibly Save Your Holiday

Tired of always getting chapped lips? Had enough of listening to babies constantly crying throughout your fight? Check out some of these useful air travel tips for a comfortable, happy flight experience.

Travelling by plane can be a very tiring journey. From the small, cramped seats to the crying babies nearby, a beautiful honeymoon can sometimes be ruined by just a nightmarish flight. Here’s 7 good travel tips to a comfortable flight.

1. No big bags

It is best to check in your luggage, even if you are spending 2-3 days at your destination. If you don’t, you will have to surrender your bags when you board the plane. It is also much easier to carry a small, simple, lightweight bag around with you. Carry only valuables and your survival kit; if it’s small, you can place it under the seat in front of you. This will allow you easy access whenever you need your earplugs or a bite out of your chocolate bar. It makes for a far more comfortable flight.

2. Bring a Flight Kit

You can purchase a handy flight kit at almost any airport or you can string one together at home. One of the most important things you should keep in your kit is a U-shaped travel pillow because chances are, you will be asleep most of your time in the flight and you wouldn’t want to wake up with a bad neck-ache. You should also include eye masks, especially if you’re not in the window seat and can’t adjust the windows. Earplugs or headphones are the handiest things to keep; crying babies are terrible to listen to! Check with your flight if they are providing shawls, if not, this is the last thing to keep in your kit. Flights can be very cold at times.

3. Get some sleep!

It is crucial to sleep on all long flights, especially night flights. While it is tempting to take up your airline’s offer for a ‘free meal’, it is terribly unhealthy to be constantly woken up for meals. You wouldn’t want to turn up half asleep at your destination! Either skip your meals completely or tell the air hostesses beforehand that you do not want to be disturbed but would prefer to have your meal at a later designated time.

4. Pay in-flight wifi

For business travellers who require their laptops 24/7, paying for in-flight wifi is the key to all demise! Business travellers are whisked off on trips every other day and getting a monthly pass of only around USD 30 is useful. You can now be productive even in the air.

5. Bring your trusty iPad.

This is important if you’re not travelling on a plane with mini tvs! Your iPad will have a variety of different ebooks that you can read on the flight as well as stored movies that can keep your noisy kids entertained for hours. You can also listen to music or perhaps go through the numerous photos from that wedding you recently attended. If you don’t have an iPad, there are affordable portable DVD players you can purchase for your own travels.

6. Bring snacks.

On long night flights, it is often advised to bring your own healthy snacks. Usually airline food is not the healthiest and if you’re in a night flight, food will only come after long periods of hours. If you’re the type who watches movies instead of sleeping on long flights, you will most likely get hungry. Just pack along some crunchy celery sticks, wholemeal crackers or Granola bars. If you have a sweet tooth, bring along some chocolate. This would be especially handy when you take off and land. If your ears hurt when the plane is taking off, you can suck on small bits of chocolate to reduce the pain.

7. Stay Hydrated

Have you ever wondered why lips get chapped, skin dries out and throat becomes parched every time you fly? This is because air in planes are not humidified. It is very important to keep drinking water throughout your time in the flight. Do not replace water with coffee or sodas because they are known to give the opposite effect, dehydrating you. You can bring an empty bottle from home, or ask your flight attendant for bottled water. Keep refilling this and hydrating yourself.
