Tokyo Disneyland Temporarily Closed Due To The Coronavirus

One of the worst news your little ones could hear!

It’s a sad day to be a traveller when you have to cancel your theme park plans because of an ongoing outbreak. In Japan’s case, Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea’s operators have chosen to close until 15 March 2020 in light of the coronavirus (COVID-19).

They announced the decision on 28 Feb 2020; it will take effect starting 29 Feb, Saturday. The Disney Resort operators stated that the decision stemmed from the directive of Japan’s government to exercise all precautionary measures in order to limit the spread of COVID-19. Although it pains us to see our favourite childhood theme park temporarily close, we understand the need for it as Tokyo Disneyland is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Japan’s capital.

Take note that their plans to reopen on 16 March 2020 are still subject to change. According to Tokyo Disneyland’s spokesperson, “Currently, we plan to reopen on March 16. But we’ll decide when to open by looking at the situation and developments. We’ll also consult (official) agencies concerned”.

The Japanese government has also ordered schools to be closed from 2 March, Monday until the spring break. It has also requested that locals work from home and avoid large gatherings until the outbreak has subsided.
