If you are to identify the photo above without reading the title, you would certainly answer “Taj Mahal”. Of course, who doesn’t recognise Taj Mahal? It’s India’s most iconic structure and one of the world’s greatest wonders. Although it closely resembles Taj Mahal, Bibi Ka Maqbara fails to match the splendour of the Taj. Thus, the colloquial names ‘Fake Taj Mahal’ or the ‘Poor Man’s Taj Mahal’.

Bibi Ka Maqbara is located about 200 miles east of Mumbai in Aurangabad, Maharashtra, India. It was built in the late 17th century by Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb’s son, Prince Azam Shah, in memory of his mother Begum Rabia Durani. Due to its inferiority, Bibi Ka Maqbara did not receive careful maintenance and proper recognition unlike the original Taj. While it carries a second-rate image, Bibi Ka Maqbara still deserves respect and appreciation just like the great Taj Mahal.
