AirAsia X Might Be Launching Flights to London and Frankfurt This Year!

According to several news sources, AirAsia X will be resuming their London route and also launching flights from Bangkok to Frankfurt in 2017. What a treat for budget travellers!

Is AirAsia flying to London and Frankfurt soon?

According to Handelsblatt, AirAsia group CEO Tony Fernandes recently told German news agency DPA that he has plans to resume flights from Kuala Lumpur to London and also add Frankfurt to AirAsia’s list of long-haul destinations. This was announced during the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

The KL–London route operated previously from 2009 until it was suspended in March 2012 due to high operating costs. Speculations run high that the flights will be launched tentatively in June or July 2017. According to CAPA Centre for Aviation, AirAsia is considering the lease of the Airbus A350 or 777-300ER aircraft for this route.

As for the flights to Frankfurt, it will be direct from Bangkok. Fernandes mentioned that he hopes to set the airfare for the Bangkok–Frankfurt flights as low as €150, taking into consideration the low oil prices.

As of 12pm, 25 Jan, AirAsia X has not confirmed this exciting piece of news. We can only cross our fingers and hold on to our seats!

To add icing to the cake, AirAsia X is currently considering flights to several U.S. states including Hawaii as part of their route expansion plans. AirAsia X has received clearance from the Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) to fly to the United States, making it the first Asia low-cost carrier to secure this approval.

Let’s all hope that our dream flight finally comes true!
