Most castles were built for kings and queens but this one was built for a millionaire.
Swallow’s Nest is a Neo-Gothic castle built between 1911 and 1912 for an oil millionaire Baron von Steingel. Perched on top of a 40-metre high Aurora Cliff in Gaspra, Crimea, Russia, Swallow’s Nest gives visitors a breathtaking view of the Cape of Ai-Todor on the Black Sea coast.
Although the castle is rather small (about 20 metres long and 10 metres wide) it has become the symbol of Crimea’s southern coastline and a living testament to Imperial Russia. Because of its architectural beauty and unique setting, Swallow’s Nest has been featured in several Soviet films and many curious visitors are drawn to this inspiring attraction.
Don’t miss this castle when you visit Crimea, Russia.
