What? An alien has invaded Austria? You might be surprised to see this strange, blobby thing in the middle of this laid-back European setting. Aptly named the “Friendly Alien”, Kunsthaus Graz is a contemporary museum in a form of Blobitecture, or Blob Architecture, an architectural trend which emphasises curving amoeba-like forms.

Designed by Colin Fournier and Peter Cook, Kunsthaus Graz was part of the European Capital of Culture celebrations in 2003 and has since become an architectural landmark in Graz, Austria. While it looks like a slimy alien from above, its outer skin, composed of photovoltaic cells, actually produces its own power. Aside from its interesting exterior, you’d also be fascinated to explore its state-of-the-art facilities and multi-disciplinary features.
