Shimmery, icy and surreal, this ice cave should be ranked #1 on the list of most beautiful sights in the world. Ice caves are temporary structures that only emerge in autumn, at the edge of glaciers. They are exceptionally beautiful on the inside. However, the blue ice is temporary and can only be seen between mid November and mid March, during winter.

The blue ice is caused by the glacial mill, a phenomenon where rain and melted water found on the glacier surface are channeled into streams and pond into the crevices of caves. It will accumulate and form a clear ice mass and will become thicker by the years. These ice masses can flow in response to gravity and pressure and are slowly sculpted to reveal magnificent sights. The Skaftafell ice cave, located on the frozen lagoon of the Svínafellsjökull glacier in Skaftafell, Iceland is one of the most beautiful ice caves in the world.
