Situated east of Elista, Kalmykia, in Russia, Chess City is a huge complex dedicated to chess and chess competitions. It was completed in 1998 when Kalmykia’s chess fanatic President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov wanted to create a chess complex in time for the 33rd Chess Olympiad.
