Thailand’s New Budget Airline NokScoot Will Launch in 2015

NokScoot launches in the first quarter of 2015. The joint venture between Singapore Airline’s Scoot and Thailand’s Nok Air will be Thailand’s second long-haul low-cost carrier.

The launch of NokScoot has been set for the first quarter of 2015. Jointly owned by Singapore Airline’s Scoot and Thailand’s Nok Air, NokScoot will be Thailand’s second long-haul low-cost carrier.

NokScoot will operate the flights out of Bangkok’s Don Mueang International Airport with their fleet of Boeing 777-200ER aircrafts.

The carrier is expected to start operation in the first quarter of 2015 although details about where it would fly to have not been confirmed. A spokesperson has said that the airline would fly to destinations popular with tourists wishing to travel to Thailand as well as destinations popular with Thai residents.

Acknowledging the intense competition in the budget airline market, appointed chief executive officer of NokScoot, Piya Yodmani, has said that NokScoot will offer passengers the “highest value for their fare”.

This joint venture between Nok Air and Scoot is expected to bring additional tourists to Thailand, already ranked in the world’s top 10 destinations according to the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO).

With several budget airline carriers, including Tigerair, JetStar, AirAsia, Firefly, Cebu Pacific and Lion Air operation, already in the scene, NokScoot’s entrance is only set to rock the already competitive industry even harder.
