Marvel at New Zealand’s Night Skies at This Stargazing Livestream!

Did you know that Aotearoa is a stargazing paradise?

In bustling metropolitan cities, you’d be hard pressed to glimpse meagre, measly stars against the light-polluted skies. But if you have been dreaming of stargazing, here’s your chance! Tourism New Zealand invites you to commemorate the Maori New Year by celebrating the magic of the Matariki star-filled sky at its inaugural stargazing livestream. Furthermore, explore the myths and legends of Matariki; this is something that you don’t want to miss!

Fun fact: In New Zealand, Matariki is a time of celebration and reflection, as the appearance of the Matariki cluster of stars in the night skies heralds the beginning of a new year.

Glimpse an endless bed of twinkling stars in the scintillating night skies at Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve. This is touted as one of New Zealand’s most breathtaking stargazing locations. Take our word on this, or let its international acclamation as a gold-rated dark sky reserve speak for itself.

No matter where you may be, you can fulfil your wanderlust by tuning in to this stargazing livestream at Tourism New Zealand’s official Facebook page here. It will be held on 21 July 2020 at 1.30am SGT (5.30am NZT).

We don’t know about you, but we can’t wait to witness this incredible natural spectacle glowing from the heavens above!
