Dining in Groups of 5 in Singapore OK From 12 July 2021

Time to call your friends!

After following strict guidelines — including limiting restaurant dining to two people since 21 June 2021 — Singaporeans will finally be able to enjoy dining in groups of five in restaurants starting 12 July. This news was announced by Finance Minister Lawrence Wong on Monday, 5 July as he spoke to Parliament.

According to Minister Wong, Singapore’s measures in curbing infections had been effective so far while the economy continued to operate as expected. Singapore had already relaxed restrictions in June as it transitioned into Phase 3 last month. Now, Singaporeans can reap the benefits of their patience and cooperation as they finally go back to bonding with more friends and family over delicious food outside their homes.

The Straits Times Singapore also spoke to Health Minister Ong Ye Kung last June where the minister confirmed that restrictions are expected to relax further by 12 July. Minister Ong added that other openings will be considered aside from dining in depending on their control over COVID-19 clusters.

Little by little, Singapore dining is moving towards normalcy, just as other aspects of SG society is. Until then, Singaporeans are requested to continue following safety protocols and observe social distancing when necessary. Want to celebrate the ease of restrictions with a bang?
