Mangart is one of the highest mountains of the Julian Alps, located between the border of Italy and Slovenia. It is very popular during summer due to its convenient access. The Mangart road (Slovenia’s highest road) will take you 2000 altitude metres high, just below the mountain’s rocky summit pyramid.

At the highest point of the road, you’ll find a marked crossroads that shows Slovene routes to the right and Italian routes to the left. The Slovene route is much more difficult and only those capable of using steel cables and can handle fairly exposed passages should attempt this route. The terrain here is also very crumbly, so do be careful. The Italian route is much easier; it is a short tour that leads onto a magnificent mountain with gorgeous views.
