Shopping in Jakarta: Your Guide to Shopping Havens in PIK

I'm missing the Indonesian shopping scene already!

During my recent 1-night stopover in Jakarta, all I remember was the incredible shopping. I stayed near PIK, aka Pantai Indah Kapuk, which has quietly become one of Jakarta’s most stylish shopping and lifestyle hubs. Shopping in Jakarta is so much fun. Think modern, airy spaces where designer boutiques sit alongside local trendsetters, riverfront walkways, and plenty of photo-ready spots.

Shopping havens in PIK, Jakarta to check out

1. PIK Avenue

The autumn decor at the time of my visit.

This shopping spot is one of the most prominent ones in North Jakarta. And because it was very near where I stayed, I obviously had to check it out! At PIK Avenue, you’ll find a range of shops and brands. My favourites were definitely the popular fragrance shop Alchemist and The Food Hall, a well-stocked gourmet grocery store that sells a wide range of international ingredients.

I also bought myself a practical laptop bag from Thule, and its price was significantly lower than in Malaysia! Don’t miss out.

2. By The Sea PIK

By The Sea PIK was one of the most recommended places by our local friend Nic. Unlike typical shopping malls, this open-air lifestyle destination is designed around alfresco spaces that encourage visitors to slow down and take in the surroundings. With a curated mix of cafés, shops, and boutique stores, this spot quickly became my favourite.

I grabbed some beautiful, handmade clothing from a curated boutique! Plus, for those missing Seoul’s vibe, there’s even the famous Nyu Nyu store here (though options are limited).

Sociolla

Want international skincare, makeup, or haircare? Head straight to Sociolla! This bright, welcoming space offers a wide selection of trusted local and international brands, letting shoppers test products and browse at their own pace. I even snagged some Korean facial masks for a steal! So worth the visit.

Munchies

I had been craving some good matcha for the entire trip, and I was so delighted to get my craving fulfilled at Munchies! This tiny, super-cosy cafe specialises in coffee, matcha drinks, and treats like Basque cheesecakes. I highly recommend the Matcha Strawberry. It has the perfect balance of sweetness and earthiness and is simply the best I’ve ever had.

Bipang Ambawang Cabang PIK

For dinner, we hit Bipang Ambawang Cabang PIK, a spot our local friend Nic swore by. It’s apparently a beloved eating spot for both locals and tourists in PIK, best known for its incredibly crispy Babi Panggang (fried pork) served with fiery sambal and hot soup.

Nevertheless, the real showstopper for me was the Tumis Pakis, a crunchy vegetable dish that instantly reminded me of midin from Sarawak!

3. Central Market PIK

For those seeking the best snacks to buy back home as souvenirs, grocery shopping at Central Market PIK is a must. I picked up some Indonesian-made peanuts, chocolate-coated coconut shreds, and granolas from the brand Yava. Don’t miss Sensatial Botanicals either! This natural skincare brand from Bali offers a beautiful array of body, hair, and skin products.

4. Pantjoran Chinatown PIK

Pantjoran Chinatown PIK isn’t your typical shopping destination. Instead, it’s a feast for the eyes and the taste buds. The exterior architecture is designed to evoke the charm of historic Chinese streets, making it a popular spot for photography and social media snaps.

The area is a haven for food hunting, offering a variety of authentic Chinese dishes, as well as fast food like KFC!
