South Australia Records ZERO Coronavirus Cases Over The Weekend

The declining growth of the virus engenders calls to ease restrictions imposed previously.

As the world grapples with the ongoing battle with COVID-19, various countries’ efforts to slow the spread of the infection have bore more fruit than the others. Australia is flattening the coronavirus curve evident from the nil number of cases in South Australia, the Northern Territory, and the Australian Capital Territory over the entire weekend.

Only 81 new cases of coronavirus were recorded across the country with a population of 1.76 million. The total number of coronavirus cases across Australia to date is 6606.

The low numbers of COVID-19 cases and deaths compared to other major developed nations with infections proliferating is attributed to the prompt lockdown measures, good public adherence to the rules, and widespread testing capacities. 

The declining growth of the virus engenders calls to ease restrictions imposed when the coronavirus outbreak was starting to unfurl beyond China. 

However, Prime Minister Scott Morrison said the National Cabinet would look at easing restrictions in four weeks once three key criteria were met.

Refined testing regimes, tracing capabilities and response capabilities at a local level will be assessed before the country rolls out a new strategy that could signify a light at the end of the tunnel.
