Princess Hours Remake and All You Need to Know About It

Here’s All You Need to Know About the Princess Hours Remake

It will be produced by the same company behind the original adaptation.

The early to mid-2000s paved the way for many Korean dramas to come out of local production houses. Once Stairway To Heaven (2004), Full House (2004), and Coffee Prince (2007) started showing, watching Asian soap operas became a highly anticipated thing to do not just among Koreans, but millions of other audiences abroad.

Another drama that gained a substantial following at the time was Princess Hours in 2006. And if you were once or continue to be a fan of the Shin Chae-kyeong and Crown Prince Lee Shin onscreen tandem, you’d be delighted to know that a Princess Hours remake is in the works. And, taking a cue from the initial details of the project, there’s a big chance it will be just as epic as the one you grew up watching and loving 15 years ago.

Meanwhile, Group 8 is the production company behind the original show in 2006. It previously produced Boys Over Flowers (2009) and My ID Is Gangnam Beauty (2018). It also specialises in exporting Korean dramas worldwide and initiated the musical adaptation of Princess Hours, also known by its manhwa or comic series name, Goong (literally “palace”).

“It’s important to continue creating new projects, but we also think that it is important from an intellectual property standpoint to actively breathe new life into good projects that already exist. ‘Goong’ will become an important case in this new IP ‘boom,’” Jae Dam Media Hwang Nam Yong CEO said via Soompi.

Written by acclaimed South Korean author, Park So-hee, Goong tells the story of commoner Shin Chae-kyeong and Lee Shin, who have been unwillingly betrothed because of an agreement between their grandparents. It is set in an alternate world where constitutional monarchy was the norm in South Korea.

Both the comic series and show adaptation were such a success and contributed to the Hallyu wave at the time.
