The movement of the gargantuan Moai statues of Easter Island, Chile is one of the most baffling mysteries of all time. These megalithic structures were believed to be representations of the ancient Polynesian ancestors. Archaeologists speculated that the statues were made to walk and were positioned facing away from the ocean to watch over the people.
It’s still not completely known how the Moai statues moved across the island, but it definitely required the interplay of an ingenious mind, brute force and ancient technology to perfectly put the large statues to where they are now. Today, the site has been protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
