You Can Now Put Your Chosen Pronouns on Your Instagram Profile!

Don't be afraid to be you on Instagram.

Paving the way for a more inclusive world, whether digitally or physically, Instagram is now allowing its users to indicate their own pronouns on their Instagram profile. This feature has been available since May 2021, and yet not a lot of people seem to be aware of it.

How to add your Instagram pronoun

Placing your pronoun/s on your Instagram profile is easy.  Just go to your profile, click “Edit Profile” and tap “Pronouns.” You can add up to four pronouns on your Instagram profile: “she/hers,” “he/his,” “they/their,” or even combinations of these such as “he” and “they.”

With so many people open about their chosen gender and having the courage to use the pronouns they identify with, it’s only natural that social media platforms have a designated profile space for us to express our pronouns. On Instagram, your chosen pronoun will appear right beside your profile name.

Even better is that Instagram gives us users the necessary protection we need. When choosing your pronoun, you can tap the “Show to Followers Only” privacy setting, whether or not your account is public. This setting is also turned on by default for users who are under 18 years old, according to the birthday listed on their profile.

As always, if you experience bullying or harassment on Instagram, you can always report the abusive content. The account you reported will never see you reported them.
