After five years of construction, Markthal Rotterdam has finally opened this month. Designed by MVRDV and developed by Provast, this groundbreaking structure is a combination of a vibrant market hall and innovative housing. The whole facility offers public access to dining and shopping, while accommodating 228 apartments. The huge mural at the centre made by artists Arno Coenen and Iris Roskam, speaks for its title: “Cornucopia” as it gives a striking impression of abundant living.
Inspired by the food markets in Stockholm, Barcelona and Valencia, Markthal is the first covered food market of the Netherlands. It’s a sustainable complex of food, leisure and living that is expected to attract 4.5 to 7 million visitors each year.
Don’t miss this new attraction when you visit Rotterdam, Netherlands.
