Shiny, icy and gorgeously turquoise-blue, Lake Baikal is a natural phenomena hidden in the Northern depths of Russia. It is one of the largest and oldest freshwater lakes in the world. Its waters are so clear that when its freezes in winter, you can see almost 40 metres (130 feet) below! A spectacular feat occurs this time of the year. Differences in the temperature, winds and sun causes the ice crust to crack and form amazing turquoise fragments of ice atop Lake Baikal. These beauties almost look like broken chandeliers; breathtaking and inspiring. Lake Baikal is Russia’s treasure trough and a beautiful place to take some stunning photographs.
