The town’s book obsession began in 1961 when a Welsh bibliophile Richard Booth opened his first second-hand bookshop in the town’s old fire station. Hay-on-Wye then earned its popularity as the “Town of Books” and since 1988, it has been the venue for a literary festival that draws thousands of visitors every year. If you have that great desire for books, you should visit this town before all the books are gone.
