Looking like a battleship that is almost ready to wage war, Hashima Island has increasingly gained the attention of many history vultures and adventure junkies. Aside from its formidable structure, the island becomes even more interesting with its abandoned concrete apartment buildings that are reminiscent of the significant periods in Japan.

Hashima Island used to be a coal mining site but as petroleum replaced coal in the 1960s, the mines in the island were shut down. The island remained empty and abandoned for more than three decades, thus the name “Ghost Island”. Even though the buildings were not well-maintained, the island was re-opened to public in 2009.

In 2012, it has been featured in the James Bond film “Skyfall” as the lair of the villain Raoul Silva. However, no scenes were filmed on the actual site. If you are really that audacious like James Bond, you may engage in sightseeing boat trips and tours around the island. Despite its growing popularity as a tourist attraction, Hashima Island is still among the spine-chilling abandoned islands of Nagasaki Prefecture.
Don’t you find it creepy to walk around like a survivor of an apocalypse?
Prepare your adventure to Japan before Hashima Island is completely gone.
