Out with the old and in with the new – with DFS closing its doors in Changi Airport terminals in June 2020, Changi Airport Group (CAG) has now announced that it will be immediately replaced with Lotte Duty Free.

Earlier this August, DFS Group announced that they would not be bidding in Changi Airport Group’s (CAG) latest tender exercise. With their impending departure from Changi Airport in June 2020, Lotte Duty Free has now been awarded a six-year contract in Changi Airport.

The South Korean operator edged over two other firms, Shilla Duty-Free and Gebr Heinemann, for the win. According to Changi Airport Group (CAG), Lotte presented “the strongest and most compelling proposal” with “strong omni-channel and marketing ideas which will propel CAG’s travel retail strategy forward”.

Lotte’s six-year lease will start on June 2020, immediately after the end of DFS’s. Before their operations officially begin, all liquor and tobacco stores across Changi Airport’s four terminals will be revamped with fresh new designs to maximise visual impact and visibility.

Travellers at Changi Airport can expect to enjoy a wide selection of products and brands, all housed within the (future) 18 Lotte Duty Free stores. And that’s not all: all Lotte stores will also house curated zones featuring the latest products in the market, and even unique activities such as whiskey-blending! Pretty sweet addition, if you ask us.

Currently, Lotte Duty Free has stores in airports around APAC – including Da Nang, Canberra, Brisbane and more.
