Experience the Wizarding World of Harry Potter by Recreating Your Own Butterbeer

Accio butterbeer! Butterbeer has become a rite of passage to be initiated into Hogwarts. The frothy, bubbling beverage reminiscent of butterscotch is not to be missed when paying the wizarding world of Harry Potter a visit. After all, sporting the butterbeer moustache is a must when in Hogsmeade.

Miss this drink sorely? Fret not, as the Hogwarts Express is now able to make a pit stop at your house. Relive the wizarding world of Harry Potter by recreating these Harry Potter inspired butterbeer recipes.

1. The OG Harry Potter butterbeer

Catch up with your family over a Harry Potter movie marathon, with a glass of the classic butterbeer in hand.

Ingredients

  • 2 litre bottle cream soda 
  • 1/4 tsp caramel extract 
  • 1/4 tsp butter extract
  • 1/2 cup butterscotch syrup
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream

Recipe for butterscotch whipped cream

  1. Whip 1 cup of heavy whipping cream in a large mixing bowl thoroughly until stiff peaks are formed.
  2. Add 1/2 cup of butterscotch syrup.
  3. Add in 1/4 cup of powdered sugar.
  4. Mix the mixture thoroughly until combined.

Recipe for cream soda

  1. Pour the bottle of cream soda into an empty jug.
  2. Add 1/4 tsp of caramel extract to the cream soda.
  3. Add 1/4 tsp of butter extract to the cream soda.
  4. Stir the jug of cream soda mixture thoroughly.

Assembling the Harry Potter butterbeer

  1. Pour the jug of cream soda mixture into an empty glass.
  2. Top off with butterscotch whipped cream.
  3. Enjoy!

2. Harry Potter inspired butterbeer ice cream float

Craving for ice cream? Feel free to dress the recipe up as an ice cream float as well.

Ingredients

  • 1 can cream soda 
  • 2 tbs butterscotch syrup 
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tbs sugar 
  • 2 tbs melted butter
  • Vanilla ice cream

Recipe for cream soda

  1. Pour 1 can of cream soda into a large bowl.

Recipe for buttery whipped cream

  1. Add 2 tbs of butterscotch syrup.
  2. Beat 1 cup of heavy cream in another large bowl until medium peaks are formed. 
  3. In the bowl of heavy cream, stir in 1 tbs of sugar.
  4. Add 2 tbs of melted butter to the mixture of heavy cream and sugar.
  5. Stir the mixture thoroughly until combined.
  6. Sit the mixture aside to rest.

Assembling the Harry Potter butterbeer

  1. Drizzle the inside of an empty glass with more butterscotch syrup (optional).
  2. Scoop vanilla ice cream into the glass.
  3. Pour in the cream soda mixture.
  4. Top off with the whipped cream mixture. 
  5. Enjoy!

3. Harry Potter butterbeer milkshake

Sip this creamy, frothy milkshake inspired by the classic butterbeer. 

Ingredients

  • 12oz bottle, approximately 355ml cream soda
  • 1/2 cup butterscotch syrup 
  • 1 can whipped cream
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • Butterscotch chips
  • 7 scoops vanilla ice cream

*Serves two people.

Recipe

  1. Pour 1/2 cup of butterscotch syrup into a blender.
  2. Pour the bottle of cream soda into the blender.
  3. Add 7 scoops of vanilla ice cream into the blender.
  4. Sprinkle 3/4 tsp of salt.
  5. Blend the mixture until thoroughly combined and smooth.
  6. Drizzle the inside of the empty glasses with more butterscotch syrup (optional).
  7. Pour the milkshake into the glasses.
  8. Top off the milkshakes with whipped cream (optional).
  9. Top off with butterscotch chips (optional).
  10. Enjoy!
