Are you an April Fool? Best Travel Pranks we have Seen

It takes a lot of imagination and great courage to come up with April Fools’ pranks that storm the world. Check out some of the best April Fools travel pranks that we have seen in past years.

If you’re rather stumped by a number of unusual advertisements released today, don’t worry, you’re not alone! Every April Fools’, we’ll see a line of companies and organisations pulling hundred thousands of legs by posting new headlines about discovering a new species or experiencing great technological advancement. Of course, these advertisements are marvelous and bring a laugh to even the most serious discipline mistress in the office.

1. Cargo class

One of the most celebrated travel pranks occured in 2012 when STA Travel released “cargo class” airfares for travellers willing to travel in the cramped cargo space for cheaper airfares. This scheme allowed up to 80% off standard economy air prices  and was a huge hit across the world. The prank was so successful that even days later, STA had to call major news outlets to tell them the scheme was a hoax.

2. Evolutionary phenomenon?

New Zealand’s Haka Tours still make many laugh for their successful prank on discovering a new breed of “long-necked sheep”. A marvelous trick of evolution, these new sheep were going to revolutionize the wool industry for the extra amounts of wool that can now be produced from a single sheep! It took the world a full week to finally realise that these long-necked marvels were simply regular llamas.

3. Glass-bottomed plane

Just a year back on this day, Virgin Atlantic had some fun when they launched “the first glass-bottomed plane”. Images of the wonder-plane made front news and excited the world. Considered to be a phenomenon, the idea of passengers enjoying unparalleled beauty as they fly was a reason for great enthusiasm. The airlines promised to launch a “glass-topped aircraft” soon after so that travellers may view the starry skies. Of course this was a hoax, which was a great disappointment for some enthusiastic people.

4. New pet policy

If you own a duck, alligator or perhaps a horse, this news is for you! WestJet permits animals to travel in the passenger cabin for $50 a day! Passengers are unfortunately limited to carrying animals of only 10kg or lower on board the flight. Sorry folks, horses are out! Even more unfortunate, this policy is a hoax. You are please reminded to never attempt to bring your animal on board the plane, whether it is below 10kg or not!

5. Next stop, San Serriffe

Forget Hawaii, Langkawi and Jamaica! Here’s a gorgeous island getaway that exceeds all expectation. When UK’s The Guardian published travel details for the latest travel destination, San Serriffe, people were wowed by the place’s legendary beauty. Even Kodak played a part, promising to exhibit photos for this new travel wonder.

6. Hot Yoga on board

This year, Scoot Airlines has just announced that their passengers may now enjoy daily hot yoga classes on board flight TZ 220 from Singapore to Hong Kong. Special s-t-r-e-t-c-h seats provided allows plenty of extra space for passengers to engage in a full-body workout. Experienced instructors, Maria Chan and Jezeral Heng will be on board to provide extra help where needed! It is however exceptionally bewildering that Scoot Airlines have chosen to announce this impressive package on April 1st! Real or not real? Should we believe this fascinating story or not? I for one, refuse to be fooled!
