Welcome to Huacachina, a small desert town in the Ica Region, in south western Peru. While it is built around a lush oasis with a natural lake, it is not exempt from the danger of drying up like any other desert oasis. This dreamy paradise might just disappear before you even know it.

The blistering desert heat and the installation of man-made wells by the private owners have significantly reduced the water level in the oasis. However, the authorities have already begun a process of artificially pumping water into the oasis to preserve its beauty and make it available to the growing number of tourists coming each year.

A small population of around 100 people survived here by running businesses that offer thrilling desert activities like sand boarding and dune buggy riding. If you’re looking for great adventures in the desert, Huacachina is definitely the place to be!
Plan your retreat to Peru before this oasis is completely swallowed by the desert.
