Seriously, no one wants to go to hell, but there’s a bizarre opening on earth which is morbidly called the Door to Hell. Located at Derweze, Ahal Province, Turkmenistan, the natural gas fire has been continuously burning since 1971. For more than 40 years, this fire abyss has been fed by the rich natural gas deposits in the area. There’s also that pungent smell of burning sulphur making it undesirable to stay nearby.
Despite the awful smell and the possible danger, the site has been visited by many daredevils worldwide. This may even be a good place to visit before dying – literally, facing the door to hell. If you think you’re sinful, jump in!
