Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam was recently spotted taking a budget Scoot flight, opting for a regular commercial airline for his return journey from Ipoh, Malaysia. The President was in Ipoh for a two-day working visit and had also flown into the city on a Scoot flight on 25 August.

According to a report from Sin Chew Daily, when President Tharman boarded the flight back to Singapore, he was greeted with applause from other passengers. In a friendly gesture, he stood up from his seat in the first row to wave back at everyone.

President Tharman’s visit was made in his capacity as the Chancellor of the National University of Singapore (NUS). He was hosted by the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, who is also the Chancellor of Universiti Malaya (UM). The visit was in connection with the 54th Universiti Malaya–NUS Inter-University Tunku Chancellor Golf Tournament.

“We have known each other for some years, but relationships are only deepened through regular contact,” he said in an official statement.
