1. MARS.cnx

An (almost literal) out-of-this-world Chiang Mai cafe that deserves a mention on our list is MARS.cnx. Known as the Mars cafe in Chiang Mai, this wildly popular coffee spot sees long queues daily. From dazzling planet projections, to space shuttle-reminiscent seats and even a red rock wall — MARS.cnx takes its theme to the next level with such immersive decor. So, be sure to carve out some time to explore this space and take some awesome shots when you visit. 

Beyond the cafe design, MARS.cnx is known for its beautiful, planet-inspired drinks like their name-sake espresso: Mars. At night, the cafe transforms into a bar, serving up vibrant cocktails till 1am (except on Wednesdays).

2. Transit Number 8

Located a quick 15-minute cab ride from Chiang Mai International Airport, Transit Number 8 is one of the most popular Japanese-inspired cafes in Chiang Mai. Once you arrive, you will feel as if you’ve been transported to a little town in Japan! Transit Number 8 boasts eye-catching photo spots inspired by Japanese public transportation. Do spend some out exploring the outside of the cafe, where there is a bus stop set-up and a simulated underground train station entrance for you to pose alongside for pictures! 

And once you enter the cafe, feel free to take a seat at the tatami seating area or the Japanese train cabin section. Other than authentic matcha latte, the cafe is known for serving some of the best coffee in Chiang Mai. In particular, their Soft Landing — a cold brew with soft cream on top — is a hit amongst coffee lovers. So, spend an afternoon at this cosy cafe sipping on a cuppa with delectable cakes!

Playworks Shop & Cafe is both a cafe and retail space — where you can pick up some posters, t-shirts, and bags, amongst others. This cafe is known for its bright, colourful drinks that rotate with the season. Expect fruit-based teas during summertime, such as their refreshing Sweet Summer: a sweet concoction of watermelon juice and lychee. 

After ordering your food, head up to the second floor which has a rooftop window; inviting the natural light in to brighten up the whole space. You’ll also find many on their laptops on the second floor, as it’s a popular working space amongst the locals.  It’s also located right opposite MAYA Lifestyle Shopping Center, making it a superb place to make a pit stop in between shopping sprees. Plus, you can pick up some really quirky and unique souvenirs for your loved ones, or just to keep as a memory of your trip to Chiang Mai.

Plus, this cafe serves up a great variety of dishes; whether you’re famished and craving some hearty pasta — they serve a variety of squid-ink, Japanese-style, and regular pasta! Their Pasta With Truffle Sauce and Seared Scallop is a best-seller there! Meanwhile, the iced Honeycomb Milk and Strawberry Cheesecake drinks are both sweet and pleasing to the eyes! Wait, this isn’t a rainforest — but a garden cafe! Chom Cafe & Restaurant is known all over social media for its breathtaking garden and waterfall setting. To all dog lovers, we know you’ll want to pin this recommendation. It is home to various breeds of calm temperament, so you’ll fall in love with every single one of them. Box Box Dog Cafe will simply bring a smile to your face with their adorable canines. As the stars of the show here are the dogs, expect a simple drink menu of coffee, teas, and juices, along with some cakes. There is an entrance fee of ฿350 (~S$13.24), which is inclusive of a drink and a dessert. 

This dog cafe in Chiang Mai is a little far off from the city centre but it’s so worth the journey out. It is located in the countryside, so you can enjoy the fresh air and clear skies while playing with cute dogs.

12. Enough for life Village

Enough for life Village is a homestay and cafe that will remind you of the Korean countryside. From the rattan furniture to the beige walls and even the calming music, it will instantly put you in a relaxed state; much needed for a proper vacation. Enough for life takes advantage of the scenic landscape behind the cafe by offering picnic and afternoon tea packages in front of their lake.

As the cafe is run by Koreans, expect some Korean dishes with a little Thai twist. Or if you’re just looking for a place to grab something light, their coffee is a must-try! They even sell their coffee beans and filter packs so patrons can take their quality coffee home. You also need to visit their prop shop, which sells unique homeware pieces like utensils, mirrors, and glasses. They’re perfect presents for your loved ones, or to get for yourself!
