From 1 May to 31 December 2025, international travellers (basically anyone arriving from outside Greater China) can enjoy complimentary ferry or direct bus rides from Hong Kong to Macao. The initiative, rolled out by the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), is aimed at drawing more overseas visitors to the city. And with free transport on the table, why not?
Why Macao?
A lot of people associate Macao with flashy casinos and luxury hotels. And sure, they’re part of the experience. But there’s much more waiting once you step outside the gaming halls.

Macao is a mix of East and West, with Portuguese-style architecture tucked between Chinese temples, and egg tarts sitting alongside dim sum in local bakeries. You’ll find UNESCO heritage sites, quiet gardens, family-friendly attractions, and even black-sand beaches. Whether you’re there for the street photography, the food, or just a change of pace, Macao is a destination that surprises in the best way.

Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) is teaming up with familiar names like TurboJET, Cotai Water Jet, and HK Airport Direct to bring back the special offer that drew over 310,000 international visitors in 2024. This time, they’re extending the deal all the way to the end of 2025.
Once you land in Hong Kong, you can book a one-way ferry or bus ride to Macao at zero cost. Just head to the official websites of the service providers to lock in your seat (subject to availability, of course).
And here’s the best part: you’re not limited to just one free ride. You can redeem multiple tickets within the promo period as long as there are still seats left under the quota and you meet the T&Cs.
Bus from HKIA?
For those landing at Hong Kong International Airport, look out for the designated counter in the restricted area right after arrival. Flash your passport and boarding pass, and you’ll be able to hop on the direct shuttle bus from SkyPier to Macao via the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (no detours into the city required).

Whether you’re in it for the egg tarts, the luxe hotel stays, or just want to say you crossed three regions in one trip, this promo makes it way easier (and cheaper) to swing by Macao. All you need is a confirmed flight into Hong Kong and a bit of planning to book those free seats.
So if Macao’s been sitting in your “maybe later” list, this might just be the nudge you need.
