Where Exactly is the Schengen Area?
Before booking your flights, it helps to understand what the Schengen Area actually is. The Schengen Area is a zone made up of 29 European countries that have officially abolished all internal borders. Think of it as one giant country for international travel. Once you pass through passport control at your first point of entry, you can freely travel between all 29 member states without facing any more border checks.

Note: The Schengen Area is not the same thing as the European Union (EU). Some EU countries (like Ireland) are not part of the Schengen Area. Some non-EU countries (like Switzerland, Norway, and Iceland) are part of the Schengen Area.
