SB19 Is the First Act to Overtake BTS at No.1 On Billboard’s Hot Trending Songs

These talented Filipinos are only getting started.

The most popular P-pop group SB19 takes their world domination one step further by overtaking BTS on Billboard’s Hot Trending Songs powered by Twitter. On Billboard News, the feat was described as “dethroning BTS’ six-week rule.” The Filipino pop group is the first act ever to accomplish this in this new Billboard category that was introduced seven weeks ago. SB19’s diss track Bazinga charted no. 1 on the December 11 weekly trending songs. Bazinga, which was previously at no. 8, reigned supreme with 1.5 million Twitter mentions from 26 Nov to 2 Dec 2021.

This achievement makes SB19 not only the first ever music group to outrank BTS on Billboard’s Hot Trending Songs; it also automatically makes a Filipino and Southeast Asian act the first to outshine a BTS song on Twitter. In the new Billboard ranking, Bazinga rose above BTS songs Butter, which took a step down at no. 2, and Permission to Dance at no. 3. Christmas EveL by Stray Kids went up to no. 4 , while Fly Away by Dimash Kudaibergen went down to no. 5.

SB19 premiered Bazinga’s official music video on 29 Nov 2021, but the song was already available to stream when the P-pop group released their Pagsibol album on 22 Jul 2021. SB19 also celebrated their third Anniversary on 27 and 28 Nov 2021 with live concerts streamed from the Araneta Coliseum, aka The Big Dome. You can watch replays of their anniversary concerts on 11, 12, 25, and 26 Dec 2021. Buy your tickets here

Bazinga is currently a fan favourite of both local and international SB19 listeners, as it’s an English diss track to the group’s haters. But the P-pop group’s new ranking on Billboard is truly thanks to their committed fans, who call themselves A’tin (pronounced as 18) and who have been trending SB19 songs in the Philippines since the group went viral in 2019.

Aside from this accomplishment, SB19 was also nominated earlier this year for a Billboard Music Award for Top Social Artist. This made them the first Southeast Asians ever to be nominated in the Billboard Music Awards. They were also nominated for the MTV Europe Music Award for Best Southeast Asian Act.

This Filipino boy group has had a very successful 2021 in the Billboard charts if we do say so ourselves. And SB19 is just getting started in their quest to push P-pop to the world stage. We can’t wait to see what else they have in store. P-pop rise!
