This is no ordinary ferry. The Hangang Bus has been designed with both convenience and sustainability in mind.

Inside, passengers can look forward to individual seats with personal tables, making it easy to enjoy a snack or catch up on light work while cruising the river. Bicycle racks allow cyclists to bring their bikes on board without hassle, while the barrier-free design ensures accessibility for wheelchair users and passengers with limited mobility. Panoramic windows bring the river views centre stage, whether you are gliding past Yeouido’s skyline by day or soaking up Seoul’s night lights after dark.

How and where to take the Hangang Bus in Seoul

The Hangang Bus will serve seven piers along the river, stretching from Magok in the west to Jamsil in the east.

Two routes will operate:

Regular service (75 minutes): Magok–Mangwon–Yeouido–Apgujeong–Oksu–Ttukseom–Jamsil

Express service (54 minutes): Magok–Yeouido–Jamsil

All piers are within easy reach of the city’s subway network, with improved ramps, adjusted bus routes, and Seoul’s public bike system (Ttareungi) now integrated to make transfers smooth. At Yeouido, for instance, a new accessible ramp has shortened walking distances by almost 200 metres.

The journey itself doubles as a sightseeing experience. At Yeouido, passengers can admire the striking 63 Building and the financial district skyline, which looks especially spectacular at sunset. Cruising further east, Apgujeong and Jamwon showcase a lively stretch of riverside cafes and walking paths, while Oksu provides views of the Seongsu Bridge and the neighbouring districts of Seongsu-dong and Yongsan.

As the boat approaches Ttukseom, the expansive Ttukseom Hangang Park comes into view, a favourite with picnickers, families, and cyclists. The route culminates at Jamsil, where the Lotte World Tower dominates the skyline, a dramatic finale to the journey along the river.

Hangang Bus tickets, prices and schedule

Fares are priced competitively with Seoul’s other modes of public transport. An adult ticket costs 3,000 KRW, while youth fares are set at 1,800 KRW and children’s tickets at 1,100 KRW. Payments can be made using a Climate Companion Card or T-money, with transfer discounts applying just as they do on buses and the metro.

Services run from 6.30am until 10.30pm on weekdays, with sixty-eight trips scheduled daily, and from 9.30am until 10.30pm on weekends, when forty-eight trips are available. Express services are tailored to commuters, operating during morning and evening peak hours.

Beyond transport: the Hangang Bus experience

Seoul has designed the Hangang Bus to be more than just a way of getting from A to B. Waiting areas at major piers come with cafes and digital kiosks displaying real-time service information. It creates spaces where passengers can relax before their journey. Seasonal events are also planned along the route, positioning the service as both a transport link and a new cultural attraction.

Safety has been a top priority throughout development. Upgraded navigation systems, bridge-height markers, and trained staff ensure smooth sailing, while emergency drills with the coast guard and river police have prepared crews for all eventualities.
