1. Prague

One of the oldest cities in Europe, Prague has for a long time been considered the “Jewel of Central Europe”. For 50 years, it was hidden behind the Iron Curtain, but since 1989 it has become one of the major tourist hotspots on the Old continent. The collection of medieval buildings (the castle and the bridges on the Vltava are the most known examples) make you feel like you’ve been dropped in the 15th century. In addition to this, the Czech beer tradition and beautiful girls are some of the more “spicy” attractions in the Republic’s capital.

2. Budapest

The capital of Hungary is, by my personal taste, the most beautiful city in Europe. It doesn’t have as many monuments as the cities placed on the top spots in our ranking, but it just has an atmosphere and views that literally stick to your mind. Sipping a glass of wine on a terrace high up in the Buda hills (just next to the castle), while you enjoy the magnificent view over the Danube and its beautiful bridges, is an once-in-a-lifetime experience.

3. Barcelona

Three things mainly characterize one of the “hottest” cities in Europe today, Barcelona: art, sun and sports. The art revolves around its own Salvador Dali who really left his mark over the city: the Sagrada Familia cathedral, the Guell Park and numerous other buildings are all shaped by his beautiful mind. The sun is present almost all year, making Barcelona not just an artistic, but also an exotic city. And finally, sports – well, you know FC Barcelona, the team that every football fan (and not only) dreams to see playing live. What a dream come true that would be!

4. Paris

Ah, the city of love. Paris is today one of the biggest metropolitan areas in Europe and one the major tourist destinations in the world. Although not all areas of Paris can be characterized as “romantic”, it still has its charm: the monuments (the Tour Eiffel, the Arc de Triomphe, the Louvre – among others), the atmosphere (take a walk at dusk on the edge of the Senne and you’ll see what I’m talking about) and the people (the Parisians who have they’re own way of interacting with people and expressing their feelings).

5. Rome

We left the capital of Italy for the last simply because it is quite possibly the best of this list. Rome leaves an everlasting impression that it leaves to all who visit it. The city is basically an open-air museum, with the Coliseum and the Vatican as its most important “artifacts”. The cuisine is absolutely magnificent – try the food in the coquette restaurants behind the Coliseum and you won’t regret. Finally, the atmosphere is ideal for spending a honeymoon or a romantic and magical escapade, leaving you with memories for a lifetime.
