Named after the Russian geologist Alexander Krubera, Krubera Cave is the only abyss on Earth known to be deeper than 2,000 metres. It is Located in the Arabika Massif of the Gagrinsky Range of the Western Caucasus, in the Gagra district of Abkhazia, bordering Georgia. With the cave map released early this year, its depth is compared to approximately six Eiffel Towers piled up together.

Due to its staggering depth, explorers need to camp for a number of stopovers where they can sleep in tents, cooks meals and prepare themselves before getting deeper and deeper into the great chasm.
